Dorothy Henning, Guild Certified Feldenkrais® Practitioner, completed her certification in Switzerland and opened her Feldenkrais practice in Strasbourg, France in 2004.  She returned to her home town, Louisville, Kentucky in 2013, where she currently practices.  Dorothy holds a French national diploma in Sports Education specialty Aquatics, from Strasbourg, France.  While in Strasbourg, she worked with high level competitive athletes as well as collaborated with the Ludica Center for traumatic brain injury and stroke victims.

Dorothy is certified as a Havening Techniques® Practitioner, a rapid and effective treatment based in neuroscience that uses touch, attention and imagination to trigger electrochemical changes in the brain that alter how memories are processed and helps increase resilience. Havening Techniques complements Feldenkrais with its parallel foundations in neuroscience.

The Feldenkrais® Method is based on principles of neuroplasticity, physics, biomechanics and an empirical understanding of learning and human development. By expanding the self-image through movement sequences, guided attention, and the gentle guided touch of an individual session, it brings attention to the parts of the self that are out of awareness, helping you create new neuropathways, and thus enabling you to include more of yourself in your functioning movements. Through Feldenkrais you become more aware of your habitual neuromuscular patterns and expand options for new ways of moving. By increasing sensitivity, the Feldenkrais® Method assists you to live your life more fully, efficiently and comfortably.

The method is taught in two forms, in group classes known as Awareness Through Movement® and in individual hands-on sessions known as Functional Integration®.

Functional Integration Sessions

Assessing your needs and individually designing a lesson for you, Dorothy uses a gentle clear touch that guides you and enhances your sensation of comfort and connection throughout your skeleton and body, improving your ease and coordination. Functional Integration® sessions are deeply relaxing and this sensation lingers for hours afterwards. You are fully clothed and often lying or sitting on a padded low table. Feldenkrais enhances learning to help you feel more comfortable in your body, and to develop your learning whether you have a neurological issue, want to advance after an injury, or would like to improve in sports or dance.

Dorothy works with adults and children.

Awareness Through Movement (ATM) classes

Awareness Through Movement (ATM) lessons are easy to do gentle mindful movement explorations.  Each lesson is organized around the improvement of a different aspect of human movement and functioning. During the lesson you are verbally led using guided attention through movement sequences. These mindful movement sequences may appear very simple and yet they enhance learning.  One is often astounded to discover at the end of a lesson improved balance, ease of movement, and a feeling of being calm and relaxed with a sense of presence in your body and yourself.  These improvements will often generalize to enhance other aspects of your life.

 Testimonials

"Your classes are a very important part of raising my consciousness! When you talk about being aware of how my body would move naturally if I had not been compensating for some ache or injury for a long, long time, I feel I am going to a level that would apply to every part of my life. It's like the 4th question in the work of my favorite spiritual teacher, Byron Katie"

"What would my life be like if I didn't have this thought/perception/belief/idea/memory/concept/restriction?" Your guidance is a kind of hypnosis in which the ease and grace with which you lead us to move extends itself to every area of one's life, including really deep stillness and the attention it takes to "be in the moment/movement." I find that this "meditation" time with you refreshes my body and my Soul.
